BIOGRAPHY
Born to a mother who was a schoolteacher and a father who worked in the pharmaceutical industry, Alan Ruck enrolled, after obtaining his high school diploma, at the University of Illinois. He left in 1979 with a diploma in dramatic arts. Then, he played in several plays in Chicago, but also on Broadway.
It was in 1983 that he found his first role in the cinema, in the violent prison film Bad Boys , led by a young Sean Penn as an astonishing delinquent who is not afraid of anything. He continued by appearing, still in the 80’s, in films like Class , Ferris Bueller’s Day Off , Shooter and The Three Fugitives .
During the 1990s, Alan Ruck became a well-known face in American cinema, playing several supporting roles in such well-known films as Young Guns 2 , Star Trek Generations , Speed , Funny Monkey and Twister . At the same time, the actor finds more substantial characters on the small screen and his series.
Alan thus plays in Muscle , Madue de toi and especially Spin City , which truly reveals him to the general public. In this political sitcom with a very high audience, he slipped into the shoes (from 1997 to 2002) of the detestable Stuart Bondek, an arrogant and careerist (but rather clever) sex maniac, taking pleasure in trapping his colleagues… From the
years 2000, the Cleveland native multiplies his performances in the series with an impressive pace. We see it like this (to name a few) in Scrubs , Stargate: Atlantis , Greek , Ghost Whisperer , Psych: In spite of Himself , Boston Justice , Numb3rs , CSI: Miami , Cougar Town , Justified and Fringe .
In 2016, he found a bigger role in the horror series The Exorcist , as well as in Succession two years later, centered on a hateful family at the head of a media empire. He plays one of the sons of patriarch Brian Cox , who is characterized by his stupidity and selfishness. The HBO series is critically acclaimed.
Alan Ruck has not forgotten cinema, as evidenced by his supporting roles in feature films as different as Thirteen by the Dozen ,Kickin It Old Skool , Phenomena , I Love You , Beth Cooper , Exceptional Measures , Shanghai Calling , Goats , Zombie Night , Sierra Burgess Is a Loser , Captive State and Freaky .
In 2022, we see him in two episodes of The Dropout , centered on the glory then the fall of business manager Elizabeth Holmes ( Amanda Seyfried ), who worked in the medical field and who was convicted of fraud. Here again, the character of Alan (a shareholder) is both self-confident and relatively stupid.
