BIOGRAPHY
Born to Jamaican parents, Delroy Lindo grew up in Great Britain, before settling in Toronto, then a little later in the United States. There he studied theater at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. After a few appearances in series and television films in the early 80s, but also in the cinema where he obtained a small role in the comedy Find The Lady (1976) and More American Graffiti , he disappeared from the sets to return to the stage for almost ten years, notably on Broadway. In 1992, he made a significant return in front of Spike Lee
‘s camera in Malcolm X where he played Archie, an interpretation which earned him numerous awards. He met the activist filmmaker on three occasions: in 1994 in Crooklyn and in 1995 in Clockers . The following year, Lindo was part of the shock trio of Get Shorty alongside Gene Hackman and Danny DeVito , managed by Barry Sonnenfeld . Two years in a row, he toured with Keanu Reeves in 1996 and 1997 in Feeling Minnesota and The Devil’s Associate . His massive physique (he measures 1m93) works wonders, as does his natural authority. A charisma which also pushes him towards virile roles, such as that of General Wheeler in The Last Castle , where he opposite Robert Redford and James Gandolfini . Delroy Lindo twice faced action star Jet Li in 2000’s Romeo Must Die and in James Wong ‘s The One (2001) . That same year, he found the trifecta of Get Shorty in Braquages under the direction of David Mamet . After spending eventful adventures in the Sahara in the company of Matthew McConaughey , he was asked by Tony Scott to film Domino (2005), which retraces the journey of Domino Harvey, daughter of actor Laurence Harvey , who went from being a model to that of a bounty hunter. In 2009, temporarily abandoning the register of supercharged films, he lent his voice for the first time to an animated film: Up there , from Pixar studios.
