The Douglas County School Board has approved the hiring of a new superintendent.
John Ramirez Jr. was hired Tuesday night.
The decision came amidst backlash from several board members and the public regarding a former DUI conviction.
Trustees had concerns that Ramirez had not initially disclosed the DUI during the application process, but Ramirez says he did so because he misunderstood the application's question.
He was approved by board members in a close vote of 4 to 3.
