Prince Fielder is a former baseball player who played for several baseball teams including the Detriot Tigers, Texas Rangers, and Milwaukee Brewers. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers straight out of high school in the 2002 Major League Baseball (MLB) first round draft, where he spent the first seven years of his MLB career before signing. a deal with the Tigers in 2012 and was eventually traded. the following year when he ended his career prematurely following an injury.
Fielder set several records during his professional career; He broke the Brewers team record for home runs in a season and became the youngest player in league history to hit 50 home runs in a season. Fielder was born on May 9, 1984 in Ontario California as Prince Semien Fielder. His father is Cecil Fielder – a former professional baseball player who played as a power hitter in Major League Baseball (MLB) during the 80s and 90s. He was born right-handed, but his father converted him to left-handed at an early age. During his father’s playing days, he took Prince with him. In 1996, when he was twelve, Terry Fielder punched Tigers third baseman forward Terry Francona in the upper deck of Tiger’s Stadium.
For school, Prince Fielder attended Saint Edward’s School in Vero Beach, Florida for two years and played varsity junior baseball. He spent the first three years of his high school playing for the Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Florida, before moving on to Eau Gallie High School, where he played in his senior year. As a senior, he recorded .524 hits, 13 doubles, 47 runs, 41 RBIs and 10 homers. Florida Today named him the 2002 All-Coastal Player of the Year and signed on to play college baseball for Arizona State University that same year.
Career
Prince Fielder was drafted by the MilwaukeeBrewers ranked seventh in the first round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft. He began his professional minor league career playing for the rookie-level Pioneer League Ogden Raptors. He was later promoted to the Midwest League’s Class A Beloit Snappers where he spent the entire 2003 season before transferring to the Southern League’s Class AA Huntsville Stars for the entire following season.
He started the 2005 season with the Pacific Coast League’s Class AAA NashvilleSons before his promotion to the major league later that season. Fielder started out as a designated hitter, then as a regular first baseman. In 2006, he became a National League Rookie of the Year favorite. He remained with the Brewers until the end of the 2011 season.
After this year’s World Series, Prince Fielder became a free agent, and in January 2012, he signed a nine-year contract with the Detroit Tigers worth $214 million. It became the biggest contract in Tigers history.
He was scheduled to play first base, replacing injured Victor Martinez and cleaning up the bat in the Tigers’ order. Prince finished the season with a .313 batting average. In April 2013, he was named AL Player of the Week for April 8–14 after recording 0.632 hits during the week with eleven RBIs and twenty-two total bases.
In November 2013, Fielder was traded to the Texas Rangers in exchange for $30 million and their second baseman Ian Kinsler. In June 2014, he underwent neck surgery which ended his season prematurely. He also ended the 2016 season prematurely due to injury.
In October 2017, Rangers had to let him go citing financial considerations. Fielder would later call a press conference in which he was in the midst of tears, announcing his retirement from professional baseball. His reasons were not far from the facts that he had injuries in the last two/three seasons and had several surgeries.
