Sami Khedira was born in Stuttgart, Germany on April 4, 1987 to Doris and Lazhar Khedira. Her father, Lazhar, is from Tunisia while her mother, Doris, is of German descent.

As a child, Sami played a lot of football in Germany with his younger brother Rani Khedira. He started his journey to professional football in 1992 by joining his hometown club, TV Oeffingen youth academy. After three years with them, at the age of 8, he joined the academy of VfB Stuttgart.
