BIOGRAPHY
Son of actress Mary Cain and actor Walter Stacy Keach , young Stacy Keach Jr has been immersed in the artistic world from an early age. In order to follow in the footsteps of his parents, the future actor began studying drama at the University of Berkeley and the prestigious Yale University, from which he graduated with a Master of Fine Art.
It’s on the New York stage, with the satirical play MacBird! (1967) , as Stacy Keach speaks her first lines. The show was such a success that he repeated the experience the following year, with The Niggerslovers , a comedy in which he opposite Morgan Freeman , then in his debut. The Shakespearean classics King Lear and Macbeth followed , which he defended on numerous occasions, and which brought him success and rewards.
On the cinema side, the native of Savannah (Georgia) is not unworthy either. With a filmography of more than fifty films to his credit, he demonstrates in each of his passages a charisma and a presence which strongly contribute to his singularity. It was in 1968 that he landed his first film role, in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Robert Ellis Miller . Two years later, we see him in Brewster McCloud , under the direction of Robert Altman , then in the sublime The Last Chance (1972), where he delivers a remarkable performance, as a fallen boxer, who tries by all means to find glory. He also appeared in the drama Cops Don’t Sleep at Night (id), and in the very violent Cop Trash , which would later give rise to an equally brutal remake , with the young Casey Affleck in the lead role. The following year, the actor was offered the lead role in the terrifying The Exorcist , but refused to take part in the project.
With his carefully trimmed mustache (he keeps it for all his roles, in order to hide the scars of a surgical operation), Stacy Keach does not go unnoticed. He made numerous appearances and participated in numerous productions, most often in secondary roles. In 1980, he joined his brother James Keach , himself an actor, in the western The James Gang of Brothers . He also starred in John Carpenter ‘s science fiction film Los Angeles 2013 (1996), and a few years later in the disturbing American History
In addition to theater and cinema, Stacy Keach also appears on television screens. In the 80s, riding the wave of detective series like Magnum or Columbo , he accepted the role of New York private detective Mike Hammer . It is this role that will contribute to his notoriety, particularly among the French public. He is also found in numerous fictions, such as the medical series Doctor Quinn, Female Doctor and Emergency , but also in the comedy Titus , where he plays the friendly patriarch of the family of the same name. For this role, he will be awarded a Golden Globe. In 2005, the actor was cast to play Henry Pope, the friendly warden of the prison where Michael Scofield ( Wentworth Miller ) stays , in the hit television series Prison Break .
But Stacy Keach is not just good looks, she is also a deep and warm voice, which many directors call on to provide dubbing or narrate documentaries. This is the case, for example, with the animated film Planes , where he offers his voice to the character of Skipper.
In 2008, we found the actor in the autobiographical fiction W. the Unlikely President , directed by Oliver Stone . He also lends his features to the disturbing Admiral Mark Turso in Jason Bourne: Legacy . In Alexander Payne ‘s Nebraska , he plays Ed Pegram, Woody’s ( Bruce Dern ) former partner . The following year, he starred in the drama If I Stay , but also in the second part of Sin City , where he played the terrible Wallenquish.
