Her parents’ controversial marriage
Sydney’s father met her mother in 1977 at the Beverly Hills nightclub where she worked. Despite the fact that his marriage to his first wife, Marguerite L. Whitley, still existed, OJ Simpson and Nicole Brown began dating. He eventually married Sydney’s mother, six years after his divorce from his first wife and five years after he retired from the NFL on February 2, 1985.
Four years later, the union began cracking when Nicole accused her husband of abuse and was unable to move on. She filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences. Their marriage lasted only seven years before Nicole’s lawsuit for divorce was granted on February 25, 1992 that same year.

The murder of Sydney’s mother
June 12, 1994 is a date that Sydney’s family and many American citizens would never forget in a very long time. It was night and Sydney Brooke Simpson and her brother were asleep upstairs, unaware that they would wake up and never see their mother again when she and her boyfriend Ron Goldman were horribly stabbed to death that night.
She was lying in the pool of blood directly in front of her. Nicole and Goldman’s bodies at the Brentwood gated community in Los Angeles, California, were not discovered until 12:10 p.m. two hours after their deaths.
A glove covered in blood at the scene was found by one of the police officers who found the bodies and when they went to OJ Simpson’s home to inform him of his ex-wife’s death, a second glove was found at his premises, also covered in blood and he matched the first. After blood samples from both gloves went through a DNA test, it was determined that the samples came from the two victims.
As a result, OJ Simpson has become a prime suspect in the case and trials have begun. On October 3, 1995, he was declared “not guilty” to the murders. After massive dissatisfaction with the verdict, particularly among white Americans, Ron Goldman’s family filed a civil suit against OJ Simpson and this time he was found guilty of wrongful death of the victim and battery. He was subsequently ordered to pay $33,500,000 in damages.
