Daly was born in Madison, Wisconsin on February 21, 1946 to Mary Hope and Hollywood actor James Daly. She was raised in Westchester County, New York. After high school, Daly studied at Brandeis University and studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Having an actor father, Tyne Daly developed an early interest in the performing arts and got into it pretty early on. From the age of fifteen, she obtained her equity card.
Career
Her first acting engagement was to perform with her family at the summer stock. She began her career as a stage actress and made her Broadway debut in 1967 in the play. This summer – this fall.

In 2018, Tyne Daly began playing Phyllis in the revived version of the Murphy Brown series. She has done a few movies too, including John and Mary, Unleashed Angel, Play It As She Says, The Adulteress, The Enforcer among others.
