He was born on November 8, 1987 to his parents Kent and Martha Bradford in Oklahoma. Although he is an American citizen, Bradford is also considered an NFL player of Cherokee descent. It started after it was revealed that his father’s grandmother, Susie Walkingstick, was a full-blooded Cherokee. After the revelation, Bradford made history as the first Cherokee to start as a quarterback for a Division 1 college.
Sam Bradford was a student at Putnam City North High School. In school, he participated in several sports for the school team. After high school, he received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Oklahoma, which he accepted. Sam was redshirted as a freshman and subsequently became the starter in 2007.
Bradford declined to participate in the 2009 NFL Draft. Instead, he chose to return to Oklahoma for his junior season.
